But this stark contrast may not be as absolute as traditionally thought – that is,gucci Sunglasses, if the study of digital conversation is taken into account,louboutin shoes.

A social media monitoring company called analyzed one year’s worth of online chatter – 27 billion conversations – in order to parse the age-old question: what do women (and men) want?

Using natural language processing, they filtered English grammar and gender voice in search of phrases like “I want X.” The results were then analyzed for sentiment, and condensed into lists of the most common statements.

So what do women and men want?

In one word: food.

Analysts discovered that the majority of wishes expressed by both sexes were culinary in nature: for both men and women, eight(!) of the top ten most-wanted items were food.

And the differences were slight: both sexes wanted ice cream, pizza, cake, cookies, and pancakes,cheap louboutin shoes. The other three food cravings differed by gender – women expressed a desire for chocolate, coffee, and sushi,gucci shoes, while men pined for chicken, bacon,Ralph Lauren Sale, and beer.

The other items rounding out the top ten? Both men and women desired a car and a phone – in that order.

After eons of ,cheap christian louboutin, earnest , and dedicated to analyzing the trials and tribulations of romantic relationships, could the answer really be so simple?

What do women want? What do men want? Write this down, :

Daily Snow One Sentence Summary: ,coach handbagsPowder crazy in WV, MD and PA this weekend with 8-14 inches likely by tomorrow evening with up to 18 above 3500 ft; please be ready for blizzard conditions if you will be traveling to Deep Creek or Pittsburgh between now and Saturday evening.

Today - Sunday: Winter is finally here, most resorts at elevation (except Wintergreen) are already making snow and will pick up between 8-14 inches between now and tomorrow evening as winds persist out of the west and drive intense upslope squalls. Lower elevation areas should be able to crank up the guns this evening and make snow for around 16 hours per day between now and Monday,coach outlet store online. Temperatures will remain below freezing until at least Monday for areas above 2000 ft, allowing around the clock snowmaking for Timberline,ugg boots, Canaan, Snowshoe, 7 Springs,ralph lauren outlet online, Wisp,cheap christian louboutin, Hidden Valley, Mystic Mountain,Ugg Boots Sale UK, Winterplace, and Wintergreen. I expect many of these areas will open limited terrain on Sunday.

Next Week:
The Christmas week forecast is a difficult one. Two systems will likely impact our area, one on Christmas Eve through Christmas Morning and another on the 26th and 27th.

The first system will likely start as showers or mixed precipitation in the mountains but change to rain before going back to snow showers as the storm moves out,ralph lauren outlet online. Generally, I don&rsquo,Ralph Lauren Sale;t expect much of an impact either from rain or snow with precipitation totals generally below ,ralph lauren polo.25 inches of water equivalent.

The second storm looks to be significantly more powerful and bring with it much higher precipitation totals. Big question of course is precipitation type, which will be completely dependent on the track of the storm when it passes our area. A storm track further east, paralleling the coast, would bring mixed precipitation changing to snow for the entire forecast area (including DC & Baltimore). A track further west, over western VA or WV, would likely mean mixed precipitation changing to rain then back to snow with the bulk of the precipitation falling as rain for most areas. As of now,gucci handbags, my gut favors the second track; not exactly what we want given the bulk of the precipitation would fall as rain. That said, we are still over 5 days out and need to wait until at least Sunday until forecast models come to more of a consensus.

have also developed the model, an assessment tool used in leadership training programs at organizations ranging from the Red Cross to the Treasury Department to Cracker Barrel,Ugg Boots Sale UK. The following is an edited version of our conversation.</p>

What advice on writing would you give to the many people out there trying to break into the field of leadership publishing,gucci handbags?

I don’t know that there’s any other secret to writing than that you have to feel passionate about what you’re writing. Many people tell me that they want to write a book so that they have something to give out as like a calling card. Well that’s great, but is that your passion,coach handbags? Do you feel that the message has to be released from you or you&rsquo,cheap gucci handbags;re going to explode,Cheap Ugg Boots, it’s such a strong passion,coach bags?

The easy work is coming up with the idea. The hard work is sitting down at the keyboard and waiting until, as they say, blood appears on your forehead. It requires extraordinary amounts of time and effort that I think many authors don’t appreciate about the process. It was another full-time job and required a tremendous amount of commitment,ugg boots.

I also always tell new writers that there’s essentially five Ps to writing: There’s a point of view you have to have, there are principles that support that point of view, there are practices which people can engage in, there are prescriptions so you can tell people how they can put this into practice, and there&rsquo,louboutin shoes;s proof or evidence that this works.

How important was it to be part of a network of people, like Tom Peters, who were already very well-known names in this space?

It certainly helps. I think it helped that Barry Posner and I were at an academic institution initially, so we had a place that gave us some legitimacy. We also happened to be in Silicon Valley, a rapidly growing place that a lot of other people were interested in, and I think it helped that a lot of our stories came from there.

And yes, I think it helps tremendously to network with people. I had the good fortune of being invited by Tom to be CEO of the Tom Peters Company about eight years into my job at Santa Clara, so it helped that I had that connection.

People who are new writers,gucci Sunglasses, or new to the field, contact me all the time and I am always glad to be of support to them, because I do remember the kind of support I got. So even though folks think that we’re busy—and we are—please give it a shot. Connect with us and ask for an endorsement for a book. And if it’s a good book, generally if we have the time we’re quite willing to support it. Go to conferences and make presentations,gucci outlet. And remember, an academic audience isn’t necessarily the audience that’s going to buy a business book. You need to be able to speak at trade association meetings, professional association meetings, places where people who are going to use the book in a business and corporate setting are going to hear you.

<img src="/img/18bhmu2zuslrtjpg/medium.jpg" width="300" class="image_0 v10_medium" alt="The Best Calendar App for iPhone" title="The Best Calendar App for iPhone" />Going by the number of calendar alternatives in the iTunes App Store, nobody seems satisfied with Apple's offering. We think Fantastical trumps them all, offering fast event input, a great interface, and full support for the calendars already on your phone.

<img src="/assets/images/lifehacker/2011/05/appdirlabel-features.jpg" class="image_2 v10_medium" alt="The Best Calendar App for iPhone" title="The Best Calendar App for iPhone" />

<img src="/assets/images/lifehacker/2011/05/appdirlabel-where-it-excels.jpg" class="image_3 v10_medium" alt="The Best Calendar App for iPhone" title="The Best Calendar App for iPhone" />

Fantastical started out as a great menu bar-based calendar for OS X at a hefty price ($20). Although we like it, we felt . While the iOS app is a little higher than the average for the category,gucci handbags, $4 is quite a bit more reasonable. The mobile version of Fantastical is just as elegant, which is what makes it such a great replacement for your standard iPhone calendar,Ugg Boots Sale UK. Creating an event is a very simple process: you just type in what you plan to do (e.g. "Dinner with Mom at 7pm on Sunday") and Fantastical figures out what you mean. You can create the event manually by selecting the various options, but this is tedious and takes a bit more time. Fantastical also provides a simple interface with a weekly calendar view and a list of your events (which you can edit easily by tapping). If you want to see the entire month, just swipe down from the top and Fantastical will witch modes,gucci Sunglasses. If you want to go back, just swipe again. If you're using iOS 6 or higher, Fantastical also integrates your Facebook events and allows you to edit them,ralph lauren polo. Overall, it just makes the majority of your everyday calendar tasks faster and easier to accomplish.

<img src="/assets/images/lifehacker/2011/05/appdirlabel-where-it-falls-short.jpg" class="image_4 v10_medium" alt="The Best Calendar App for iPhone" title="The Best Calendar App for iPhone" />

Fantastical lacks an enormous feature set like some of the competition. Week Cal, for example, offers a lot more. We prefer Fantastical because it makes the most important things easier, but if you're looking for a larger number of features in a small package you can get them for less money with another app. Price is Fantastical's other downside. While we don't think it's worth quibbling over a few dollars for a truly great app, some will find $4 to be a little too much for something their iPhone already does reasonably well.

<img src="/assets/images/lifehacker/2011/05/appdirlabel-the-competition.jpg" class="image_5 v10_medium" alt="The Best Calendar App for iPhone" title="The Best Calendar App for iPhone" />

($2), our former favorite calendar app, packs in a lot. Like most of the competition, it offers multiple views for your events and tasks. Where it truly excels,polo ralph lauren outlet, however, is in how easy it is to use such a vast number of features and still see all the information you need directly from any view. You can still scan the events of your day quickly even in year view, simply by tapping a date. Moving events around works just like moving apps on your home screen—you tap and hold, then drag it to where you want. Everything is very intuitive, it feels like you're using iCal or Google Calendar but in a way that's suited for your iPhone. Basically, it has the elegance of a minimal calendar app while still retaining a very respectable set of features,cheap gucci handbags.

($4) and ($2) are both feature-rich alternatives with different interfaces you may appreciate. For the most part, the feature set is the same with a few exceptions (e.g. miCal has a neat dashboard view and ActionFocus has an awesome tabbed task manager). Both are more than adequate. ($5 currently, regularly $13) is also another feature-rich app with tons of features but bills itself as a task manager. While we don't find it more appealing than the previously mentioned options&mdash,christian louboutin shoes;which also cost less—a lot of people do like this app so we wanted to give it a mention.

($8) is a little on the pricey side (at least compared to the other options), but gives you a full organizer. It lets you pin location maps, sound recordings, notes, tasks, photos, and more to your dates,gucci shoes. Even with all of this extra data, it still syncs with Google Calendar. If you'd prefer a more flexible format for your datebook, this might be a more appropriate option for you.

,cheap louboutin shoes, or Fast Calendar and Tasks ($3) and ($1) are both great options if your main draw is a minimalist aesthetic. That's not to say they aren't great—they both have simple, intuitive interfaces that allow you to quickly navigate around all your events. That said, they're not designed to be the feature-rich behemoths mentioned above. If you don't need much more than the built-in calendar app provides but would prefer a better interface with additional views and some extra features, both of these apps are completely serviceable and nice to look at.

Finally, it's just worth mentioning the (Free) purely for its uniqueness. It costs nothing,cheap christian louboutin, syncs with Google Calendar, is very attractive, and plays tilt-shift videos while you navigate. It may not be the most practical option, but it is free and a lot of fun.

Facebook introduces social search feature

By ,

Facebook’s 1 billion users will soon be able to search their friends’ favorite vacation spots or most-traveled running trails using a new tool unveiled by the company Tuesday.

Graph Search marks Facebook’s entry into the search market currently dominated by Google and could allow the social network to leverage the treasure trove of information it keeps on the “likes,” interests and preferences of its users with advertisers.

“Graph Search lets you tap into the value of that information,&rdquo,coach outlet; said Kate O&rsquo,ugg boots sale;Neill, a Facebook product marketing manager.

Facebook said that users will be able to look up such information as “friends who live in my city,polo ralph lauren outlet,” “photos I like” or “Indian restaurants liked by my friends in India” and get the results instantly. Microsoft,coach outlet store, which holds a small stake in Facebook, will serve up answers from the Bing search engine when Facebook can’t.

&ldquo,ralph lauren outlet online;The social link gives you additional context,” said Andrew Tonner, an analyst with the Motley Fool. “You’re more likely to take some sort of action if someone you know has also had a favorable experience.”

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg announced the effort with much fanfare at the company’s California headquarters. Investors have been nervous about Facebook’s ability to sustain revenue since its public offering last year and &shy,ralph lauren polo;appeared unimpressed by the company’s announcement,Ralph Lauren Sale. Facebook shares, which soared ahead of the announcement, fell nearly 3percent on the news, closing at $30.10 per share.

The test version will not come with enhanced advertising and is not available on mobile devices,christian louboutin shoes, which make up an growing share of Facebook’s traffic.

If the tool is successful,louboutin shoes, Facebook could become competitive with Google, which has more than 60percent of the search market and has made a similar attempt to marry search and social data. Although the two companies have similar products, said Ovum technology analyst Jan Dawson, they’re currently serving different audiences.

“Facebook is never going to answer your homework questions,” he said.

Making the network’s data easier to search could raise privacy concerns. Facebook noted that search results will display only data already visible to a particular user.

That mitigates some of the concerns, as does Facebook’s recent push to have users review privacy settings on their older posts, said Justin Brookman, director of consumer privacy at the Center for Democracy and Technology.

The fact that users will have to seek out the information rather than having it automatically displayed also makes a big difference, he said,ralph lauren polo. “It’s not a push — it’s a pull,” he said.
