== FA Cup final Sir Bobby Charlton and Gordon Banks relive gre ==

As the sun set over Wembley on Wednesday evening, a troop of dancers could be seen on the pitch rehearsing their performance there before Saturday's final. It was a sight which served as a reminder that, however much the competition has become devalued in recent years, its grandest fixture retains a sense of occasion, an event that is, quite literally,Toms Shoes Sale, worth making a song and dance about.

"Playing in an FA Cup final is something you dream about as a professional footballer, and along with winning the league it is the greatest thing any player from this country can achieve at club level,Nike Air Max," says Gordon Banks, who before helpingEngland win the World Cup at Wembley played there twice in Cupfinals.

Banks, then with Leicester City, lost both of those games – in 1961 against Tottenham and in 1963 against Manchester United – but still speaks of them as highlights of his distinguished career. It shows what the FA Cup means to a certain generation of English footballers.

Reflecting on the first defeat, which culminated in Bill Nicholson's legendary Tottenham side clinching the Double, Banks remains convinced Leicester, who finished five places and 21 points behind Spurs in that season's First Division, could have prevailed.

"In those days we didn't have substitutes and unfortunately our right-back Len Chalmers got a bad injury and couldn't carry on in his position, so he went out to the right wing and just hobbled about," says Banks.

"And that was only after 20 minutes, so we practically played the whole game with 10 fit men. We lost 2-0 but had we had a full side we may have won. Leicester had a great team back then,Toms Shoes Outlet."

Defeat two years later came against a United side managed by Matt Busby and containing Denis Law and Bobby Charlton. It was the less heralded David Herd who got two of United's goals in their 3-1 win but for Banks the strongest memory of that match remains Law's opening goal on30 minutes, lululemon. "I made a save but didn't quite get a hold of it and he came in and popped the ball over my body," saysBanks, now a 75-year-old. "It was a lovely finish, lululemon outlet."

That success was the third of United's record 11 FA Cup victories. Bryan Robson took part in three during his 13-year-spell at Old Trafford, in 1983, 1985, and 1990, and he is in no doubt which personally was the most satisfying.

"Definitely the first one, against Brighton," he says. "I left West Bromwich Albion [in 1981] to join a club that wins things and so getting that first FA Cup was a really important achievement. Days like that were why I joined United, developed by Future."

Victory against Brighton & Hove Albion was secured via a replay, as was the 1990triumph against Crystal Palace, which, crucially, provided Alex Ferguson with his first trophy as United manager. "That was the start of everything," saysRobson.

"The boss had brought through a lot of young lads like Gary Pallister, Neil Webb and Brian McClair and getting that win gave them and the squad as a whole a great belief that we could win things, lululemon canada. All of the boss's success began with that Cupfinal."

As United's era of domination was beginning, Liverpool's was coming to an end amid tragedy and trauma. The team that won the 1989 FA Cup final did so in the memory of the 96 supporters who had died at Hillsborough in the initial semi-final against Nottingham Forest, making the 3-2 Wembley victory over Merseyside neighbours Everton a particularly emotional affair.

"It was tough,Toms Outlet," says John Barnes, who provided the cross for Ian Rush's extra-time winner. "There had naturally been a lot of talk about Hillsborough in the week leading up to the match and the fact we were playing Everton only added to it all. But, in the circumstances,Cheap Air Max 90,President Obama is, it was fantastic the final was a Merseyside derby. That made it special."

Barnes had also faced Everton in the 1984 final with Watford. Goals from Graeme Sharp and Andy Gray defeated a side who arrived at Wembley as underdogs but in confident mood having finished 11th in the First Division, lululemon canada, just four places and five points behind Howard Kendall's side. "We absolutely believed that we could beat Everton so defeat was hard to take," says Barnes. "For me it was still a memorable day as that was my first-ever FA Cup final with my first-ever side. Aside from the World Cup and Champions League finals, it is the single best game you can play in."

That is not a sentiment shared by Sir Bobby when he reflects on the 1958 FA Cup final, one of the three he played in for United. The match came just three months after the Munich disaster and Busby fielded a side containing four survivors. In that context, the subsequent 2-0 loss against Bolton was immediately and easily put into context.

"The Cup final was very difficult but the mere fact players who had survived Munich were able to play in it gave us all hope," Charlton says. "Defeat really was not the end of the world,Phillipos was friend."

Manchester City and Wigan Athletic take part, lululemon outlet, then, in a fixture rich in history and resonance. The lustre may well have paled but the memories remain and exactly 90 years on from the "White Horse final" and 60 years on from the "Matthews final" the hope is that Saturday's competitors provide another unforgettable affair.

Banks, Robson, Barnes and Charlton were speaking at the launch of Royal Mail's Football Heroes stamp collection

== Business and markets in 2012 what we have learned Business ==

The UK economy was flat. Share prices and government bond yields ended the year roughly where they started. Oil still costs more than $100 a barrel. Glencore/Xstrata aside, there were few big mergers and acquisitions. At face value, 2012 was an uneventful year in the world of business and markets. In fact, plenty happened – often with big implications for the year ahead,My mother's way of c.

is very good at kicking cans

The president of the turned markets on a sixpence in July when he said his institution was ready to do whatever it takes to save the , adding "and believe me it will be enough". Until that point, betting against Spanish and Italian bonds had been an easy gamble.

Two-year yields were touching 7% in Spain, a ruinous rate if sustained, and a euro break-up was a possibility. Politicians seemed unable to move as fast as the markets.

Draghi's intervention relieved the pressure. For the first time in the crisis, the policy prescription lived up to the hype. The central bank vowed to buy unlimited quantities of the debt of distressed eurozone members who requested help. There was a catch, of course: the recipients must adopt austerity measures and structural reforms.

But the promise of "unlimited" purchases was heard by markets. Spanish yields fell so far that Madrid has not (yet) had to summon help.

Can this happy position last? Probably not. The eurozone is back in recession and even the German industrial powerhouse has been spluttering, lululemon outlet. The euro has not been saved definitively.

But Draghi, depending on your point of view, has either usefully bought time or prolonged the agony. His launch of the ECB's outright monetary transactions programme was 2012's single biggest financial event. Even the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, despite the reservations of the Bundesbank, became a fan.

The central bank gameplan is changing

Quantitative easing has run out of out road, or at least that appears to be the concern among central bankers. Say hello to new tricks, and be ready for a world where the primary goal is to generate growth and where fighting inflation comes second.

Ben Bernanke at the US Federal Reserve pledged to keep interest rates close to zero until unemployment falls below 6.5%,lululemon canada. Unemployment was 7.9% when he made his pledge. This was an enormous shift in policy, doubly significant for being undertaken at a moment when the US economy was growing. Meanwhile, Mark Carney, the next governor of the , has wondered about the usefulness of ditching inflation targets and concentrating on nominal GDP.

These developments do not mean inflation is about to roar – higher, but not vastly higher, inflation seems more likely, lululemon sale. Markets are sanguine but even a modest turn in the dial could prove significant next year. Will bond investors really be happy to lend to the governments of the US, the UK and Japan at less than 2% for 10 years if they start to believe that inflation could run at, say, lululemon outlet online, 5% for several years,Toms Shoes Sale?

Tax matters – for companies and government

Starbucks was surprised by the anger that greeted the revelation that it has paid very little corporation tax in the UK in its 14 years of operation in the country. The company insisted, convincingly,he's made sacrifice, that it has played by the tax rules. But in gifting ?20m to the taxman it admitted, in effect, that legal and ethical behaviour are different things, at least in the public's mind.

Just as Starbucks was ill-prepared for the new mood towards ,lululemon outlet canada, so too is the government. The tax system, by treating multinationals so favourably, is the real villain. The public accounts committee told the government to "get a grip" on large corporations which generate significant income in the UK but pay little or no tax.

Does the government have a plan? The chancellor's autumn statement was full of warm words about clamping down on tax avoidance but it hardly amounted to a promise that the likes of Google and Amazon will pay more. The coalition's headache on this issue will intensify – anger over amoral corporations could easily be replaced by fury at government inaction.

Banking culture was worse than we thought

Choose your favourite scandal. Was it rigging, as practised within Barclays, UBS and others? Was it HSBC's failure to prevent money laundering by Mexican drug cartels? Or maybe the lax controls at UBS that allowed Kweku Adoboli to lose ?1.5bn in fraudulent trading? Or perhaps the revelation that the board of HBOS, circa 2008, was in a state of deep delusion about the bank's solidity?

This collection of tales was extraordinary. One broad lesson is that the go-go years for casino-style investment banking are history: investors will not cough up the cheap capital that allowed those games to be played with abandon,Toms Outlet. Thus UBS and others have made deep cuts in staff. Maybe rich pickings await long-term survivors at the investing banking table but, in the short term, pay and bonuses must fall further. Barclays provoked outrage by handing ?2.1bn in bonuses to staff and only ?700m in dividends to shareholders. It will not get away with such an uneven division of the spoils again.

Bank of England governor's eyebrows must be watched

Bob Diamond's downfall after Barclays' Libor scandal had a farcical sub-plot. The chairman, Marcus Agius, fell on his sword but 24 hours later had to "unresign" temporarily when he realised that Diamond, the chief executive, was the man the regulators wanted out. It remains a mystery as to why Lord Turner, chairman of the Financial Services Authority, wasn't able to deliver the "correct" resignation on his own. Sir Mervyn King had to finish the job. The governor of the Bank of England delivered a blunt message to Agius that the regulators had lost faith in his chief executive.

The Treasury select committee worried that "the return of the 'governor's eyebrows'" raised questions about governance safeguards and accountability at the Bank. Fair comment, especially since the Bank only takes charge of regulation next year. A shake-up of the court of the Bank of England – akin to a board of directors – is overdue and will probably happen as King departs in June.

Institutional shareholders need more prodding

Do not be too exited about the so-called "shareholder spring". Only a handful of company pay reports were voted down and City institutions showed a baffling tendency to vote for one thing while wanting something else. For instance: Andrew Moss at Aviva won 90% support for his re-election but was out within days after shareholders explained that the 54% vote against the insurer's pay report was really an expression of no confidence in the chief executive.

Why such a convoluted expression of discontent,Toms Shoes? Because most fund managers remain timid, lululemon outlet. Indeed, the overhyped springtime "rebellion" looked too much like a belated attempt by the industry to impress the business secretary, Vince Cable, and deflect the government from legislation.

In the end, a fudge was produced. Cable introduced a binding shareholder vote on pay, but every three years instead of annually as originally intended. As lobby group Fair Pensions argued, this appeared to be a compromise between a government keen to give shareholders more power and institutional investors reluctant to assume these powers. There are,Toms Shoes, it should be said, some vigorous and active fund managers. But are there enough of them? Next spring could be a washout.

Social media IPOs can flop

The post-flotation crash in Facebook's share price was something to celebrate: it was evidence that the US market does not always lose touch with reality when a battalion of investment bankers tries to persuade the world that a seven-year-old company can be worth 100 times its annual profits. Facebook is a social phenomenon but the IPO price was ludicrous given the challenge of retaining punters' loyalty while pushing unwelcome adverts at them.

Big business has George Osborne on negative outlook

The UK's AAA-rating remains, but may be going. The same might be said about businesses' assessment of the chancellor. Osborne has lavished gifts, notably deep cuts in corporation tax, but the mistakes are remembered. The pasty tax was a disaster and had to be reversed. The shares-for-employment rights scheme was launched in face of general apathy (and high-profile mockery from Justin King, boss of Sainsbury's).

Then there are the grumbles with government – like the failure to address aviation policy or set out a vision for infrastructure. These have added to a sense in the business community that, at mid-term, the government and the chancellor are drifting, unable to make bold decisions because of the overshoot in borrowing,Did the PFA pick the Premier Leagues best in the. The basic charge is lack of dynamism. FTSE 100 bosses were making it more strongly at the end of 2012 than at the beginning.

    ,Cheap Air Max 90
Politicians announced a deal on Monday on what they called some of the toughest gun laws ever seen in the . The measures, proposed after the Sandy Hook mass shooting in the state, taking an average o, include a ban on a new high-capacity ammunition magazine like the one in the massacre that left 20 children and six educators dead, lululemon canada.

The proposal also called for background checks for private gun sales and a new registry for existing magazines that carry 10 or more bullets, something of a compromise for parents of the Newtown school victims who had wanted an outright ban on them,Nike Air Max, while legislators had proposed grandfathering them into the law.

The package also creates what lawmakers said is the nation's first state-wide dangerous weapon offender registry, immediate universal background checks for all firearms sales and expansion of 's assault weapons ban. A new state-issued eligibility certificate would be needed to purchase any rifle, shotgun or ammunition under the legislation,Toms Outlet. To get the certificate, a buyer would need to be fingerprinted, take a firearms training course and undergo a national criminal background check and involuntary commitment or voluntary admission check.

The deal is "the most comprehensive package in the country because of its breadth," said Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, a Republican whose district includes Newtown. McKinney said people tend to focus on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines,It was ridiculous a, but "there's a lot here underneath the surface" addressing mental health and other issues",lululemon, he said.

The proposal was revealed to rank-and-file lawmakers on Monday after weeks of negotiations among legislative leaders,Toms Shoes. A vote was expected later this week in the Legislature, lululemon outlet canada, where Democrats control both chambers, making passage all but assured. The bill would then be sent to Governor Dannel Malloy, lululemon outlet canada, who has helped lead efforts to strengthen the state's gun laws.

Both Democratic and Republican leaders were expected to support the proposal, the pilot \written. Connecticut is sending a message to Washington and the rest of the country "this is the way to get this job done," said house speaker Brendan Sharkey, a Democrat from Hamden,Cheap Nike Air Max 90. Legislative leaders have been negotiating since early March, reviewing recommendations on guns, mental health care and school security in the wake of the shooting.

Six relatives of Newtown victims visited the Capitol on Monday asking lawmakers to include a ban on existing high-capacity magazines. Some handed out cards with photographs of their slain children. They delivered a letter signed by 24 relatives that demanded that legislators include existing large-capacity ammunition magazines in an expected ban on the sale of magazines that carry 10 or more bullets.

Allowing such large-capacity magazines to remain in the hands of gun owners would leave a gaping loophole in the law, said Mark Barden, whose 7-year-old son, Daniel, was killed in the shooting,Toms Shoes Outlet. "It doesn't prevent someone from going out of the state to purchase them and then bring them back. There's no way to track when they were purchased, so they can say, 'I had this before. So it's a big loophole."

Adam Lanza blasted his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School and fired off 154 shots with a Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle within five minutes. He went through six 30-round magazines, though half were not completely empty, and police said he had three other 30-round magazines in addition to one in the rifle. He gunned down 26 people, then shot himself to death with a handgun.
