I currently have a USB broadband modem. I purchased a wireless router containing ethernet links. Currently, the modem is plugged into my computer downstairs which is running Glass windows 98, therefore , it won't link the connections to my pc upstairs(XP). I can update to WINDOWS XP because a relative wont 'risk' this.

Am i able to connect the USB broadband modem to my wireless router having a complicated collection of cable adapters for example ethernet to UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS (I cant discover a USB TO ETHERNET adapter). If this is not conceivable, if I outlet the USB modem straight into my XP laptop, can I fill the connections to my Win 98 computer system using the XP personal computer as the a lot?

It is my opinion their is Ethernet, to USB out the currently but not UNIVERSAL SERIES BUS to ethernet. I selve dont see any cause nobody get to attach your USB device to your XP personal computer and use it like a bridge to the 98 computer system.

Of course , it nicer to create an all-in-one appliance, you could accomplish your aim with this apparatus. You cannot work with cable adapters to alter the modem's HARDWARE into Ethernet. USB needs drivers to perform, and Ethernet connections do not present those drivers into the device. you might also connect the modem to the WINDOWS XP machine and bridge associations, yes. but you can also leave the device the way it is as well as configure it to manage smoothly like this:

Plainly had the hardwear facing everyone, it is easier to provide specifics... however i can probly give you an indication of just what to perform. There are just 2 steps here:

one configure an internet entrance.

2 . configure the actual router.

As well as the rest is straightforward.

one Set up the online world machine to express AN INTERNET CONNECTION (you are able to use the wizard if you wish, or just enable Net connection Sharing), that may turn the 99 into an internet entrance. that gateway desires an IP address designated, however. Basically, the 80 machine is definitely the internet server, so the IP of the 98 machine is the IP from the gateway. Assign an address, for example: hundranittiotv?. 168. 1 . 1 to the 98 equipment. the particular "192. 168" is essential, plus the last strings you can stretch about, but for the sake of ease lets keep it little. *TIP* the subnet mask can be 255. 255. 255. zero. okay that handles the web host machine.

2 . not once you have an online gateway, link the wireless router, and gaming console (or IP) in to the configurations, usually by starting internet explorer and also typing 192. 168. 0. 1 into the address pub, and look for a slot for Internet Gateway. Type the handle assigned in step 1 . thats that for your router. (there might be other settings necessary for your specific community, and if there are, make sure to configure all those. )

Lastly a few housekeeping tasks. make sure the workgroup intended for both machines is similar. I usually employ MSHOME for the workgroup. Additionally exede make sure that on the XP device, your Internet protocol address is set to be able to "Automatically Obtain IP ADDRESS address", also known as DHCP.
